Keep Your Emotions Intact

Emotions, as defined by the Oxford English Dictionary is a person’s internal state of being and involuntary physiological response to an object or situation based on or tied physical state or sensory data.

The above definition explains the major role emotions play in our disposition to things per time. That is, someone who feels very happy may express a joyful atmosphere to things but the same person can suddenly become indifferent to things and act in an unpleasant manner because of a very bad feeling he/she is having at the moment.

However, for the man on the path to greatness finding yourself in a position where your reactions is always influenced by your present emotion is not a good place to be. For instance, it is not good that the innocent people around you are the one to receive the effect of the heated argument you had with someone earlier in the day that has now disrupted your joy, you have to learn to take hold of yourself and it is for this reason that I write to you. Stay with me!

Generally, there are many external factors that can directly or indirectly influence a person’s emotion per time, ranging from people’s comment or opinion about you, news , reactions from people in higher level than you in your organisation and so on, but to lead a peaceable life you must see to it that the primary factor that influences your emotions is You and You alone.

My dear friend, I want you to understand that people will always have their opinion about you and what you do, see to it that regardless of their opinions whether praises, encouraging words, insults or contempt that you don’t let it get to you. Learn to live aloof of public opinion, keep your emotions intact!

So as you go on in life, eliminate that crowd mentality that seeks acceptance from people and is easily swayed by what everybody thinks about him/her. Live your life based on what you have perceived as your identity in God and separate your identity from external input. I leave you with these words by Joyce Meyer: “Praises is like perfume, you can spray it but don’t drink it”.

I hope this helps you!

Your friend,
Segun Onilude.
